DO is looking for an expert in equal pay

The Discrimination Ombudsman (DO) is seeking an expert in equal pay, who will also serve as a coordinator, to help develop the agency's work on equal pay, pay transparency, and combating discrimination in the workplace. The position is placed within DO's staff.

DO is a growing agency and is expected to expand further in the coming years as a result of Sweden's implementation of the EU directive on pay transparency.

The Staff

The staff's mission is to assist the Ombudsman (the head of the agency) in strategic and ongoing matters. The unit's tasks include coordinating agency-wide issues such as the agency's governance and management processes, reporting to the government, and ongoing contacts with the Government Offices. The staff includes a strategic advisor, an expert in discrimination law, an international coordinator, a planning secretary, and the head of staff.

Your Responsibilities

With the implementation of the EU's so-called pay transparency directive, DO will receive a number of new tasks. These tasks will be spread across different units within DO, which places special demands on the coordination of work. The new rules on pay transparency will also need to be implemented in close cooperation with labor market partners and other relevant actors.

As the coordinator of DO's work for equal pay and pay transparency, it is your task to ensure, in collaboration with other units, that the various parts of DO's work are implemented, kept together, and contribute to achieving the goal of equal pay, that is, equal pay for women and men for equal or comparable work.

Your responsibilities also include other issues related to a workplace free from discrimination regardless of the grounds for discrimination. In addition, work related to discrimination and equal rights and opportunities regardless of the grounds for discrimination in other areas of society may occur.

Your tasks also include strategic advice to the Ombudsman, monitoring the external environment, and preparing materials for external meetings and appearances.

The work requires you to create good networks within the agency, with labor market partners, with civil society, as well as with the Government Offices and other authorities.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • an academic degree in law, political science, economics, sociology, or equivalent education that DO considers equivalent,
  • very good knowledge of and current experience with issues related to equal pay,
  • very good knowledge of labor market partners and the Swedish labor market model,
  • experience in coordination, project management, or equivalent,
  • experience in producing various types of materials, for example for external appearances or decision-making materials, and
  • very good skills in Swedish, both spoken and written.

You should also have:

  • very good analytical skills and the ability to quickly understand new issues and acquire and apply new knowledge,
  • the ability to collaborate, cooperate, and create good relationships with various actors internally and externally,
  • good ability to represent the agency in various external formal contexts,
  • a humble approach, instill trust, and have high integrity, and
  • good ability to meet people with respect.

Meritorious:

  • good knowledge of how wage formation works in the Swedish labor market,
  • experience in wage mapping,
  • knowledge of and experience in combating discrimination in the workplace,
  • experience from working in an employer organization or trade union, and
  • good knowledge of English in both spoken and written form.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal abilities.

The position is a permanent employment that begins with a six-month probationary period.
